CLAIRE HANSEN
You lied between boroughs and took me away from the city,
the sound of cars quickly dissipating.
You’ve called me here for so long, and each time it’s as though I’m visiting someone new.
Each face I’ve seen is burned in my mind, and as hard as I try to be distracted, I am fixated, feeling lost without the objects that have been buried
in the earth and sand for decades
or the seagulls laughing at my obsession.
So I started to take from you and brought you back with me.
I pieced you back together from my memory of broken glass and old parts and created a version of you that I can visit everyday
so I won’t be alone anymore.
